GTA V Makes the Epic Games Store Flooded with Millions of New Users

The popularity of the Epic Games Store was very high after the release of Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V).

According to the Epic vs Apple trial document, Epic Games Store had 7 million new users at the time of GTA V creation. In fact, the servers were down because they couldn't provide services to the millions of new users.

We don't know how many times GTA V was claimed for free. However, a surge of new users is only possible when Civilization 6 is released for free on Epic Games Store with 2.5 million new users.

On the other hand, below is Subnautica, which has a million new users. But otherwise, Epic Games Store is still far away from Steam.

The number of monthly active users in Epic Games Store has increased dramatically since it made popular games free of charge. However, while the number of active users per month is only 58 million, the Steam reached 120 million.

But the Epic itself has a big plan for the future, a plan called Project Moonshot. The goal of this plan is to achieve $1 billion in total revenue.

As part of the project, EPIC will continue to promote free games by offering them, and continue to work to ensure developers can present exclusive games on their platforms.

Unfortunately, the increase in monthly active users has slowed recently. Epic registered 56 million monthly active users in December 2020, an increase of 2 million in seven months.

By comparison, according to Techspot's, the average number of active users per month for Epic between December 2019 and December 2020 has increased by 2 million per month.
